How BiRCH Works
If you had a difficult pregnancy, even if it was years ago, it is important to discuss with your healthcare provider, as this can impact long-term cardiovascular health. At West Coast General Hospital's BiRCH clinic, you will be assessed for your risk factors at a 6-month postpartum checkup, and then given a plan for long-term assessments and health planning.

What Complications?
Pregnancy is a Stress Test
If you suffered any of the below complications during your pregnancy, you may be at risk.
High Blood Pressure
Either during pregnancy or within a few weeks postpartum
Preterm Delivery
A preterm delivery of less than 36 weeks for no known reason
Small Baby
Baby is smaller than we would expect at birth
Stillbirth
Late term loss of pregnancy
Placental Abruption
Placenta that separates from the uterus
Gestational Diabetes
Diabetes that emerges during the pregnancy and was not present before
